Use Snapping Points and Lines

  1. Prepare SketchUp for precise snapping
    • Go to Window > Model Info and disable Enable Length Snapping if you want unrestricted snapping rather than fixed increments.
    • Make sure the Styles toolbar is enabled by right-clicking the top toolbar area and selecting Styles.
    • Switch the model to X-Ray mode so snapping points and lines inside scaffold components are visible.
  2. Enable the ScaffPlan toolbar
    • Select a ScaffPlan bay or component to display the ScaffPlan toolbar.
    • If the toolbar has been closed, go to Extensions > ScaffPlan > Enable ScaffPlan Tool Toolbar.
    • Use Display Snapping Points to show the available snapping locations on the selected scaffold components.
  3. Copy bays precisely using snapping points
    • Select the bay and enable its snapping points.
    • Press M for Move and hold Ctrl to create a copy.
    • Pick a snapping point on the original bay, then snap it to the corresponding point at the required location.
    • To create multiple copies, complete the first copy and type a multiplier such as x5, then press Enter.
  4. Copy individual components inside a bay
    • Enable snapping points for the bay.
    • Double-click the bay to edit its contents.
    • Select the required component, such as a ledger.
    • Use Move + Ctrl and snap from one component snapping point to another.
    • Use a multiplier such as x3 to create several evenly positioned copies.
  5. Align separate bays using a temporary snapping line
    • Enable snapping points on the bays you want to align.
    • Use the Tape Measure Tool to create a temporary guide line from a known snapping point or rosette.
    • Move along the required SketchUp axis and enter the required offset, for example 0.5 m.
    • Select the bay, press M, pick the relevant snapping point, and move it onto the temporary guide.
    • Once the bays are aligned, tools such as the Lapping Bay Tool can connect them accurately.
  6. Use snapping lines for angled roof components
    • Select the roof beams or ridge components and enable snapping points.
    • These components can display both snapping points and snapping lines along their chords.
    • Select the lacing, bracing, beam, or other component you want to copy.
    • Use Move + Ctrl and snap directly to the angled snapping line.
    • Use a multiplier such as x5 to repeat the component across the roof.
    • Components can also be repositioned later by moving them along the same snapping line.
  7. Hide snapping points when finished
    • Select the relevant bays or components.
    • Disable Display Snapping Points to remove the points and lines from view.
    • Remember that snapping points and lines are only clearly visible while working in X-Ray mode.
